Title: macbook pro install?
Post by: kobeam on July 15, 2009, 04:16:51 PM
Finally, a *small* linux distro... WOOHOO!

Has anyone managed to get this onto a Macbook Pro?  I'm apparently running into hardware detection issues, but I've never seen a Linux install freeze up like it does with this one.

With the install CD, it seems to boot but gives some kind of HW warning before I even get to a shell prompt.

Any advice?

Thanks!

I don't recall any reports on a mac... the error messages might be interesting though, if you wouldn't mind copying them.

OK, here it is:

apple 0003:05AC:0230.0003: claimed by neither input, hiddev, or hidraw
apple 0003:05AC:0230.0003: hw start failed

And so I have no idea where to go from here.

Thanks a bunch.

Was that all?  Maybe the debug boot option will provide something... (or remove "quiet" if it's there)

OK, follow up... I can't get it to boot properly if I don't pass it any boot options (same error as above, every time), but with any option (even just typing "tinycore") it comes up just fine.

The trackpad doesn't work, but I can plug a usb mouse in and it works well.

Now on to the install!

maybe because of your mousepad/keyboard? they seem to be hard to configure with linux

Yes, that doesn't seem like a fatal error (most likely it would also appear on a working boot).  I can't fathom why specifying "tinycore" would work because the default implies that.

btw, which version of TC are you be using?

Could it be that the Apple keyboard is initialized differently directly from EFI vs. if typed in isolinux?
