Title: Can't Install any apps (Failed.)

Hi,

Fresh on CorePlus,

I got "Failed." everytime I try to install any app

- Coreplus installed on USB stick
- Defaut window manager option
- I'm wired connected (ping google.fr = ok)
- Best Mirror used, same for other
- ls -ld give me  /tmp drwxrwxrwx 5 root staff 300 Apr 19 02:34 /tmp/


I don't get the problem

Strange, I managed to download these apps on fluxbox :
- abiword
- audacious2
- audacious-dev
- ace of penguin
- audacity (doesn't launch)
- Chromium (doesn't play youtube video)
- Firefox (Play video but no sound)
- alsa and a bunch of plugin (still no sound on youtube)




but not these :
- kmaps



showbootcodes :
initrd=/boot/core.gz loglevel=3 cde showmaps desktop=fluxbox waitusb=2 BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz


will try again later with IceWM or defaut WM

ok well MAYBE, but then why is it the defaut directory ?

I'm just basically launching TinyCore on my usbstick... Why should I configure "waitusb=2" and that "CDE" for making basic function of TinyCorePlus Linux working ?


Whoever programmed those launching line at start should seriously consider change something... very bad impression for me, even if i'm not a Linux Pro, it's clearly a false start

Because it's in an ISO which is a read only file system.

There's a  tc-install.tcz  extension that handles setting up a USB stick. It should be included in the  CorePlus  ISO. If you boot
CorePlus you could use  tc-install  to install to a second USB stick.

last question:

"top" indicates I use 716996K. So that's 716Mb right ? How a ~200Mb linux distro that is supposed to be lightining fast and optimized can use so much ram memory ? Or Am I calculating wrong ? Is Kernel 4.19.10 that needy of Ram memory ? It's even more than a Tiny Windows 7.

EDIT : maybe because it's live launched and everything runs in the ram ?

Linux does not free up system memory when it is no longer in use. It frees it when it's needed by something else. So that's not a
good measure of required memory.

Hello Adam
After fixing your tce directory,  install firefox-getLatest.tcz(if you have’t already done so) and use it to install and/or keep firefox updated.
A few years back Mozilla made policy changes requiring “pulseaudio” to be installed and configured on the host system to make the audio connection between Firefox and Alsa drivers.

Remove all the alsa plugins as they’re likely not needed.
I noticed you’ve installed some dev extensions.
Note:  *-dev.tcz extensions are only required for those people who are compiling apps from source, so i recommend not filling up your USB tce directory with unnecessary bulk by cleaning those unneeded extensions.
Use APPS for maintenance and deletions of extensions.


Update Firefox

Before Installing pulseaudio.tcz,
first check that alsa is configured and performing correctly (the sound test is ok), then
Install pulseaudio.tcz  and be sure to follow the install instructions from the pulseaudio.tcz.info file
