Title: What is the latest version of TC that I can run on a i486 ?
Post by: iaincd on July 03, 2018, 10:21:27 AM
Hi,

I have a very old ViA CPU computer and I got it booted with a version of TC 2.11.6  -  I want to go a bit further into the future and install on the hard drive, but that version doesn't do it easily.

My question to everyone is what is the latest version in the archive I can boot for i486.. i.e. something without CMOV!!

TIA

Iain

The 9.x base and many of the extensions should work

Though most of the TCL distros work with i486 PCs , the peoblem comes while using different desktops. GNOME , KDE etc  are a no-no !.
One has to be content with XFCE ,  and  be aware that with your amount of RAM  LXDE or a Window Manager, like one of the *boxes or IceWM etc are OK.

I would prefer TCv5.x series for reasonable speed with no heavy extention loaded , if you are interested in compiletc etc !

Hi
I have an old VIA notebook CE2A1 running TC 9.0 32-bit.
It's a bit slow for my taste but acceptable.
I have openbox as window manager, firefox as my web browser.
I've tested audio with alsa and working, but I seldom use it.
The Wi-Fi is fine, BTW.
