The Second Release Candidate of v2.1 is now posted and ready for testing.
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/2.x/release/
Change log for microcore_2.1rc2.iso:
* Updated tce-wget, the command line tool for fetching extensions.
* Updated tc-config, crond & sshd moved to after restore for better support of user selected options.
* Updated tc-functions. Added space to end of searched devices for better mountpoint detection.
* New usbinstall, a command line tool to install to pendrive, usbhdd, usbzip, or usbext. Needs extensions dosfstools, syslinux, and for usbzip, perl5
* Moved virtual hard drive to support persistent home on a virtual hard drive.
* Deleted memdisk and mbr.bin as they are avilable in extensions.
* Moved more X related files into Xlibs.core.tgz and Xprogrs.core.tgz for a smaller microcore.gz
Note: The following core elements have been updated:
Xlibs.core.tczl
Xprogs.core.tczl
-
TC2rc2: Xlibs and Xprogs don't load on a fat32 file system
-
sorry for my last 'telegraphic' post: i have downloaded microcore 2.rc2 with the updated Xlibs and Xprogs extensions but when i boot microcore, it says that it wants me to specify the file system (which is fat32 on a usb stick) in order to be able to load Xlibs and Xprogs, which consequently don't load (no startx, i am landing at the prompt).
-
What boot codes are you using (for example, I use "text" to deliberately not start x)?
Could you use the boot code "pause" to post the exact start-up messages you get?
-
my boot line: microcore tce=sda1/Tc-2/tce norestore swapfile nodhcp waitusb=7
Xlibs.core mount: you must specify the filesystem type
Xprogs.core mount: you must specify the filesystem type
Xlibs.core and Xprogs.core are in my tce directory as Xvesa.core and other apps which loads without difficulty.
-
.... and at the prompt, i get:
sh: startx: not found
tc@box:~$
-
I think it's probably worth downloading the three latest *core* extensions again - I got this error when I had an old one by mistake
-
thanks, that solved the problem: it was actually caused by Xvesa.core that I didn't update; i have downloaded the Xvesa.core in the Xserver directory and now everything is fine.
-
Sorry if this is already documented or explained elsewhere:
I launched microcore from CD and got the prompt. Then I couldn't figure out what to do next.
Is there a way to launch the appbrowser from the prompt and download the core elements? Or do I need to have the them downloaded in advance (e.g. through a browser in TCL) and then re-boot in microcore?
-
That is all that microcore is. A command line prompt. No X windows.
The collection called core elements can be added to microcore to bring to the same level of X window support as tinycore. You would download core elements the same way you downloaded the iso.
