It's not necessary at all and it brings Xorg to my headless server.
Python package doesn't do it. Don't know why you allowed it for ruby.

I also want to add that openssl is severely broken for ruby. I can't install gems that use openssl at all, they break at compilation time.
I'm sorry, I tried using tiny core but I'm moving back to raspbian. I don't have the time to test packages.

What version and architecture of tinycore are you speaking of?
You can always submit a ruby extension to your requirements as long as it's named appropriately.
