Title: Skype does not open
Post by: ordep on February 29, 2016, 10:28:15 PM
Version 7.0

Loaded getskype. It will not open since apparently some libraries are missing.

Code: [Select]
~$ skype
/usr/local/bin/skype-bin: error while loading shared librarie:

Code: [Select]
~$ ldd /usr/local/bin/skype-bin | grep not
        libssl.so.1.0.0 => not found
        libcrypto.so.1.0.0 => not found

Where to find them?

I do not know what I did now suddenly skype opens and the above cited errors are absent.  ???

However, the opening window of skype says
Quote
Sing in failed
Server connect failed

I am online and sending this post.

Where to find them?

Use the "provides" function of the apps gui (which would show that they're from openssl).

Just to report that I was able to open skype-4.3.0.37 which I have copied from my working box over to ~/tc/.
I loaded qt-4*webkit from TC-4.
I have no sound yet in skype and will work on that. Might need pulse-audio.

Skype loaded from getskype will still not open. Error: Server connection failed.

As I recall, skype-4.x doesn't necessarily need pulseaudio - you would need to check whether you have the alsa or oss version though.

It works with pulseaudio in my working box Salix. Needs pavucontrol.

And I just got confirmed Chat does work fine in TC with this skype version. :)

Hi ordep
If you need pavucontrol (the gui for pulseaudio) to help redirect the stream then alsa was not setup correctly.  Having pavucontrol installed simply allows you to bypass the misconfiguration

Just saying...

I see skype-4.3.0.37 depends on libQtWebKit.so.4, which is present in the tc-4.x x86 repo, but not after that.

libQtWebKit.so.4 is present in the tc-7.x x86_64 repo, but as far as I know, there is no 64-bit version of skype for linux.

What version of skype does the getskype extension download (skype is blocked here)?

How would I know that alsa was not setup correctly. My sound is OK except in skype which has always been a bit problematic for sound.

I have libQtWebKit.so.4 from tc-4.

The getskype version is 4.0.2.*

In the skype-4.3.0.37 I am using now for chat the Ctrl-o  to check Sound devices shows as devices "Virtual Device" for Microphone, Speakers and Ringing with no options to change that. And that gives no sound.
