Those are the tail ends of the escape sequences used to change text to yellow and then back to normal.

My updates available also no longer display correctly. Do not get any odd characters but xorg-intel, my bad md5sum SCE, is listed three times! Never saw this before.

importupdatecheck was missing the entering of a failed or missing md5.txt of an sce as being checked when it exits.  Has been that way since the md5 checking was put in, but hopefully fixed now in next RC.
