Title: Doesn't restore passwd and shadow file after backup
Post by: apuboard on January 07, 2016, 08:04:18 AM
I was trying to change my password for the user tc, I also made a backup with
Code: [Select]
filetool.sh -b and I added /etc/shadow and /etc/passwd to .filetool.lst. After I reboot, the new password is lost and there's the same passwd and shadow config like I had before. Do I need other files to backup or could it be a problem with the filetool?

Which version and architecture are you referring to?

I'm using the kernel version: 3.16.6-tinycore or did you ask for the version of filetool?
However, if I run a dry backup the  two files are listed.

Hi apuboard
Bmarkus wants to know what do you get if you enter:
Code: [Select]
versionand is this for ARM, X86, x86_64.

So it turned out that I wasn't allowed to backup the shadow file, so I just wrote my hashes inside my passwd file. Not the best solution, but works for me. :D

You have not answered the questions asked.
You should have no problem backing up "etc/passwd" and etc/shadow".
Just make sure to omit the leading "/" on file names.
