Again it's time to post if you'd like to see any changes in the official kernel config. This only affects x86 and x64, the ARM ports will do their own thing.
Planned config changes:
- scsi tape support
- virtio_scsi to =y in 64-bit
We're targeting 4.2 currently.
This thread will remain open for three weeks.

Nothing specific, please incorporate items that will help keep old hardware alive. For example: parallel ports, serial connections, old USB, AGP graphics, etc. Unrelated, there was earlier discussion of adding pstree to BusyBox?
-
No currently existing config items will be removed, or they would be listed in the changes above. Busybox is a separate item, and could be updated for the next 6.x release as well.

Hi Curaga!
I saw somewhere that the new kernel will use any new network improvements derived from BSD (I don't remember exactly) - is it planned? (if true)
-
I'm not sure what you mean, do you have a link?
-
Hi Curaga!
Could not find the link... There was something about a new network stack that have been ported from the *BSD family. Maybe it is now the default. Sorry not finding the exactly info.
Thanks

Busybox with pstree built-in would be nice, thanks.

Wouldn't it make more sense to go for 4.1, since 4.1 is a LTS Kernel?

We've usually picked the latest stable each time. The LTS status of each doesn't really impact things, as with the embedded focus we keep the kernel unchanged in a release, barring bigger bugs.
For users looking to run the latest LTS release at any time, it should just work despite being a different version. Very little changes in the base are needed for different kernels.
-
What changes Core is used to do that differs from the default kernel config available from the kernel.org?
-

The config differs in every distro, I guess you meant patches? Half are cosmetic, one impacts kernel size, one boot speed, and one enables support for some old graphics cards in Transmeta systems.
-
What do you mean by "cosmetic"?
-
The boot logo, and two warnings get downgraded in priority so they don't clutter the console at the default log level.

4.3 has been released now.

Yes, but it is too fresh to use for this round. As a small player we have to rely on the larger community to catch things.
The three weeks is up.
