Title: Unable to boot Tinycore
Post by: Godzilla on June 08, 2009, 03:06:22 PM
I downloaded Tinycore 2.0 ISO and burned it onto a CD. Each time that I attempted to boot the CD, I received several identical error messages:" SQUASHFS error "
Then, it would go to a blank screen.

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Did you check the md5sum (for a corrupt download/burn)?

That is peculiar as I get same errors when booting 2.0 on a unformatted/unallocated virtual hard drive...
What filesystem type is your HD?
You could try my grub-cd which uses grub to boot and has some minimal apps.
I am making the new 2.0 iso now, but have others here-
See if they will boot or can you use USB, as I have those too.

Yes, I checked the MD5 sum and it is correct

From further research on my part, it appears that SQUASHFS is not a part of the Linux kernel that I am running on Ubuntu, which now uses 2.6.27-14-generic

Therefore, it would appear that I am out of luck with wanting to experiment with Tinycore at this time,
unless I wanted to go through the hassle of compiling a new kernel which contains SQUASHFS.
That is something that I have not attempted and perhaps requires a little more skill than I have.

It's likely that the problem does not have to do with squashfs (usually those errors can be ignored)

squashfs is in the latest vanilla kernels, iirc.
