If that's the case I'll have a look at recompiling ffmpeg to remove the dependency on libiconv.

I checked ffmpeg from the x86 repo and its deps - as far as I can see, nothing requires libiconv.
Is it possible that you were using ffmpeg with something (vlc?) that requires libiconv?

sorry, i should have described the symptom: when I did tce-load -wi, tce-load tried and failed to download libiconv.
now i don't feel like I understand what happened any more, sorry.
I had a strange version of libavcodec.tcz that depended on libiconv. I must have copied it over manually or sth and then forgotten.
