Title: Step no.2: text mode installation
Post by: Uqbar on March 11, 2015, 06:44:25 AM
I have browsed the wiki (It's not just 2 pages, though) but it looks to me it's talking about a graphical UI: tc-install doesn't exist in either Core-6.1 or CorePure64.
I need to install TC the text mode way.
Any link to documentation?

If memory serves, tc-install is both text and GUI, though personally I have not used text mode in 6x or Pure.
If things are as they should be:

1) Boot to CLI on a clean install of Core-current
2) tce-load -wi tc-install (installs to RAM)
3) Launch tc-install from the command prompt.

The tc-install script has the option to partition and format the intended drive for you.  If you're not overly familiar with Linux I'd recommend allowing it to do this for you.  If you're planning to use a USB device, the simplest means would be to boot the machine WITHOUT the USB device plugged in, wait a few seconds for hardware detection to complete, plug the device into a USB port and a couple seconds later you'll see a bunch of messages indicating the device ID while it's determining whether or not to allow write caching.  The device ID (such as /dev/sda) is what you'll need to know when setting up tc-install.

For step no.1 I presume you mean "boot off your medium" as I still need to install TC!
I'll try soon.

2) tce-load -wi tc-install (installs to RAM)
know when setting up tc-install.
tc@box:~$ tce-load -wi tc-install
Downloading: tc-install.tcz
Connecting to repo.tinycorelinux.net (89.22.99.37:80)
wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found
md5sum: tc-install.tcz.md5.txt: No such file or directory
Error on tc-install.tcz

Stuck! :-(

P.S.
I am running off CorePure64-6.1.iso

UPDATE!#
The 32bit version works. So I presume it's a bug about missing stuff in the repo.
That's a nice start: I do need 64bit.

3) Launch tc-install from the command prompt.

32bit installation of tc-install went ok but I am stuck again!
tc-install says it's missing libfltk.so.1.3

UPDATE
I figured out how to install the missing libfltk (fltk-1.3-dev.tcz).
But the installer only works under X.
So, definitely, I cannot install 64bit or 32bit TC in text mode.

The console version is named "tc-install.sh".

The console version is named "tc-install.sh".
Nope!
There is no tc-install.sh either in the ISO fs or in the repo.
I also checked the 32bit repo. Nothing there.
Try again, please! :-)

tce-load -iw tc-install
tc-install.sh

tce-load -iw tc-install
tc-install.sh
I'll (try to) close this thread. I am interested into 64bit stuff and the tc-install package is not available there.
Thanks anyway for the friendly help.

If I understand correctly, you can boot the corepure64 iso and can download and load corepure64 extensions.

If this is the case, and you'd like to install corepure64 to either usb drive/stick or hard disk then maybe you could answer a couple of questions to make it easier to help:

What medium do you want to install corepuer64 on - usb hd, usb stick or hd?
Is the usb hd, usb stick or hd already partitioned?
Does the usb hd, usb stick or hd partition already have a boot loader and, if so, which one?
