In the repo I found the file icu-3.0.tcz. Is there the source code for this version of the icu library somewhere to download?

If I download the source from the ICU site I will end up with a much, much larger library.

Thank you for the link, Juanito. However, since icu-3.0.tcz is just 1.2 MB in size I suspect that the author, Cosmin Apreutesei, has made some changes to manage to implement it in this size.

Send him a pm and ask - 'though I'm not sure how useful icu data from 2005 would be?
