Title: cups - missing links from /tmp/tcloop to /usr/lib/cups/backend
Post by: netnomad on October 26, 2014, 12:32:51 PM
hi friends,

in my cups-web-gui i get following errors:

Printer Laser Paused - "Backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/ipp does not exist!"
Printer Ink Paused - "Backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/http does not exist!"

some backends of cups are not linked proberly:

tc@box:/tmp/tcloop/200-multimedia-jessie/usr/lib/cups/backend$ ls
gutenprint52+usb  hp  hpfax  http  https  ipp  ipp14  ipps  parallel  serial

tc@box:/usr/lib/cups/backend$ ls
dnssd  gutenprint52+usb  hp  hpfax  lpd  mdns  parallel  serial  snmp  socket  usb

ipp, ipps, ipp14, http and https are missing,
after setting the links manually everything works fine!

thank you for any help.

Thanks, I will make a startup script for that.

I check the installed system for broken links with the below command, it saved a bit of time in the early days of dCore.

find /usr -type l -xtype l

I see an extensive startup script for cups, a bit of work is needed in porting it.  I will aim to get to it in the coming days.

hi jason,

thank you for your efforts,
by the way "cupsenable <printer-name>" was an important command to solve my problems...

Ok, I have worked on the startup script, added some needed deps and am trying it out on an old usb printer.

The existing startup script was messing up the links, that has been corrected.  Sometime today I will upload the new startup script and add the new deps and maybe you can try it again on your system and see how it goes.

Great, I was going to ask how it was working.  It works fine on my 1990s Deskjet.
