Title: Modern web browser support
Post by: easyviber on April 28, 2014, 06:41:19 AM
I really like piCore and it seemed to be ideal distro for my needs (it boots fast and it's not bloated with unneeded stuff). But my project needs modern HTML5 capable browser that can be used in kiosk mode (I've done that in piBang and Raspbian using Chromium, Midori or custom build webkit browser), but it seems piCore doesn't have any of these available? Other things that I need are there (Huawei E3131 support for GSM, Python and fast booting X).

Any chance of adding Chromium or Midori soon (they work fine on Raspbian)?

Chromium will not be for sure, as it requires resources to build which are not available for us.

Webkit is in progress, for some reason it fails to build.

You can try to use browsers from Raspbian. Unfortunately Raspbian builds in general have a long dependency change coming from Debian and not useful on a system like Raspberry Pi, speciall polkit, selinux, etc.
