Title: Booting to Desktop --Solved!
Post by: davec51 on April 21, 2014, 06:52:19 AM
I just burned Tiny Core. When I try to boot I get a command line. How do I get to the desktop? I have tried commands like "startx" but I get the message "not found."
On a mad hunch, I took the cd out of my cd/dvd Sony player (a remote device) and put it into an old internal CD player. Suddenly, there was the beautiful desktop. I am writing this from Tiny Core and Firefox.
I have no idea why this happened. Clearly the other player found the CD and booted it, but it couldn't somehow get to the desktop.
Thanks to those who replied.

What do you mean burned? Which version you are using?

It's Tiny Core 5.2. I burned the iso to a CD. I get no desktop, as I said, only a prompt.

It's TinyCore-Current.iso. Isn't there some way I can get from the command line to the GUI?

Try the coreplus CD.  It has more drivers.
