Team Tiny Core is pleased to announce the release of Core v5.2:
http://www.tinycorelinux.net/5.x/x86/release
Change log:
* rebuildfstab: do not replace fstab entries for a device that does not have "Added by TC" on the line (thanks to Gerald Clark)
* init: increase the default inode count
* ondemand: don't list extensions under subdirs in onboot maintenance
* ldd: add wildcard to support both x86 and x86_64
* busybox updated to 1.21.1 plus wget patches and split suid/nosuid for better security
* ldd: Added quotes for binaries with spaces in their names
* /etc/services: modified to suit rpcbind rather than portmap
* tc-functions: Removed the getpasswd stars to allow backspace to work
Note:
rootfs64.gz available for corepure64
a new nfs-utils extension has been issued to work with tc-5.2

Thanks!
Updating all systems in 3... 2... 1... :)
-
5.2 looks OK, but when checking for updates in Apps I get warning notice about latest version being 5.1 (http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/).
-
On http://repo.tinycorelinux.net/ I don't see that error...
-
Your selected mirror just has not caught up yet.
-
core plus 5.2 works great for me. Some extensions I would like to see:
nmap, lighttpd or mongoose,php
Firefox 21 gives me youtube out of the box, but no sound. I remember I had that problem before / but forgot.
Installed OSS and - osstest works but not in youtube.
Thank you for the good work

HTML5 video needs specific sound support (ie Firefox would need to be compiled for OSS, not for alsa). Last time IIRC you installed alsa.
-
thanx -yes you are right curaga - I think I have to use Alsa or go back to an older Firefox version.

Usually this boot screen flashes by too quickly to read, but I finally caught it :p
When booting using rootfs-520.gz + modules-3813.gz + vmlinuz-3813. during loading of vmlinuz there is a slight momentary pause in the boot process for this message.
early console in decompress_kernel
Decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF... done.
Booting the kernel
Is just interesting that I've never noticed it before, or is this new? is a debugging feature?
-
Early console is a debugging feature (to print errors before the console is up), but rest assured it's not sleeping there but doing useful work :)
-
Thank you for the explanation

I just upgraded from 4.7.5 to 5.2 (yes a big jump, but I've been working on the 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' principle). Now my installation is broken. It booted when I replaced the core.gz & vmlinuz files & rebooted with the 4.7.5 extension set. Booted to a desktop with jwm-snapshot wm running. No wifi, so connected via cable & did an extension update using the Apps manager-> Maintenance -> updates. On rebooting I get to a cli, no wifi. tce-load-wi says wifi downloaded, but tce-load wifi.tcz says wireless-3.8.13 missing, attempt to tce-load -wi this & get wget error - bad address 'tinycore.mirror.uber.com.au'.
A simple step by step guide to updating TC would be useful - either on the wiki or in the FAQ on the website.
I have updated many times, having used TC since it started, but never had a fail on this scale.
Beginning to think my first instincts were right - 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'

Did you follow the instructions in the release post:
http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,15889.0.html
If the mirror is giving problems, it's maybe better to take the extension from:
http://repo.tinycorelinux.net/5.x/x86/tcz/wireless-3.8.13-tinycore.tcz
..and that avatar from the dsl days still makes me smile :)
