I am used to press Alt d in shell to delete a word. But when I press these keys in tinycorelinux 4.x/5.x running in virtualbox 4.2/4.3, no matter x terminal or tty console, it stops accepting input.
The system is alive. And this did not happen with 2.x.
What should I do? I see no other information on this.

Cannot reproduce, those keys work fine in all four combinations for me. (4.x cli, 4.x aterm, 5.x cli, 5.x aterm).
Probably Virtualbox's fault. Could even be that it's some hotkey used by vbox? Perhaps you used older vbox for 2.x, etc?

What about ^W?
-
Different action, alt-d erases the following word, not the previous one.
-
Ohhhh... I had no idea about this, and OP just referred to "delete a word"...
That would explain why nothing seemed to happen at all when I was pressing Alt-D.
Thanks for the explanation curaga.
BTW, works as expected here too - once I do know what to expect :P

I just tryed and got the same results as OP.
Aterm and 'console' do not react to keybord input.
URxvt inserts the letter ä but does still react to keybord input.
kmap=qwertz/de-latin1
kmap=qwertz/de-latin1-nodeadkeys

I do not think so. I am using the exact same virtualbox and host for 2.x and it is just fine.

I am using stock 5.x iso, so no kmap or any other stuff changed.

Are you using vbox kernel modules or not?

No. I did not add anything to stock iso.
