Title: Google Chrome alternatively Chromium
Post by: meo on July 24, 2013, 02:54:44 PM
Hi guys!

Anybody up to making an extension of the latest cut of Google Chrome? I've seen that some people seems to think that this is the safest web browser now. I don't know, but if so, it would be a good extension to have in the repository. Chromium might be another option, I'm not sure. What say you?

Have fun with TC and making good extensions (you that have the knowledge),

Hi Rich!

Yes, I know but it's an old build (if I got it right). The latest should be 30.0.1575.0 if I'm correctly informed. Thanks for your input!  ;)

Kind regards and a big hand to the TC developers at work,
meo

There should be a regular updater for the browsers that are being used daily by users that are involved in some way on this forum. Unfortunately, some of the browsers (i.e. Firefox) hasn't had a proper update and version 22 has been out for quite awhile. Fortunately, thanks to aus9 for updating FIrefox v21, we now have a feature where it discards any data being collected by site or being tracked by sites (If that feature is accurate). It would be great to have someone update these browsers soon. Thanks in advance.

You could use dCore as a start to import the latest stable build, then follow the regular steps to make the extension.

Sadly, Google Chrome is closed source and Google doesn't provide binaries that work on TC.

Chromium is totally possible, but building it is no small feat. (Checkout: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/wiki/LinuxBuildInstructionsPrerequisites )

Not to discourage anyone, of course.  :) It would be great if we could have the latest version in the repo.
