Title: TCE/TCZ for fastest boot time?
Post by: LucaTNT on May 18, 2009, 09:32:18 AM
Hi everyone,
I'm impressed with TinyCore, it's exactly what I was looking for.

I've noticed that once I installed some TCEs it got quite slower at boot, and I would like to know if TCZ would be faster at boot time, though I know they should be a little slower when launching programs.

Thanks in advance,
Luca

Yes, loading TCZ type extensions is a lot faster than TCE.

PPI is best method I've found of keeping your installed stuff from boot to boot without compromising boot time.

I like to keep large binaries, like firefox, skype, etc., as PPI (installed on HD), with links to $HOME as necessary. Having things like .wine program files in your home directory can add 30 seconds or more to your backup in addition to increased boot time.
