Title: Dedicated Music Server
Post by: PET-240 on June 14, 2013, 06:51:14 AM
Gday All,

Am currently running an Alix 2d2 board and mpdPup for a dedicated headless music server, I am looking at using the BeagleBone Black, however I have noted it has HDMI out, I like the Alix as it has nothing I dont use, has anyone an idea of a board similar to Alix that has no video out etc, just USB, "proper" ethernet(not on USB bus) that TC can run on?
I am a linux newbie, so this is something that will take me a while to learn, would like something with some power, 512ram etc.
Any thoughts at all? Am I barking up the wrong tree using TinyCore, though I feel not as mpdPup runs out of ram the same and buffers music etc.

Really appreciate any advice possible.

Many Thanks,

Drew.

OK, I have access to a small ARM processor and onboard ram on a SODIMM size card. How well does Tiny Core go on ARM?

Typically you would have to compile a kernel with initrd and squashfs support.
Typically you would have to learn the boot environment, usually but not nessarily, u-boot and its hardware specific support files.
We have Tiny Core working on arm v6hf and arm v7hf. If you have other then also must compile the base Core programs.
