Title: How to keep Opera tiny
Post by: slkpg on June 08, 2013, 04:11:06 PM
In a frugal install, opera can be very small on backup. There are only 5 or 6 files out of the 3.9M that need to be saved. (This assumes you leave the mail on the server if using mail client.)

bookmarks.adr
wand.dat         if used
operprefs.ini
contacts.adr
speeddial.ini   if used
mail/accounts.ini

I copy these to another directory, and let TC blow away .opera-11 using .xfiletool.lst. Before starting opera, just create the .opera-11 directory with these files. An alias command works well.

 :o

Following such kind of advice which is sourced on highly personalized needs could yield results from loss of customization until direct unrecoverable data loss.

When posting such under "Tips & Tricks" it should be clearly and beyond any doubt pointed out that this is a very personalized example and could only be used by daring users at their own risk.

What could serve as an indication helping figure out what is needed would be listing content of profile by modification time.

i do the same as slkpg. backed up files are mostly hand-picked here.
it's not like anyone's life should depend on their web browser. if you have important data and don't understand the technology print it out :P

Pretty good overview:

though there are some minor differences between versions.
