Title: Getting a small browser into TC
Post by: parcdulas on December 09, 2012, 11:04:07 AM
I have installed CORE Plus to the 5Gb hard disk of a Toshiba 4200 Satellite Pro that only has 64 Mb of Ram. Firefox is out of the question in this little RAM and Opera is very slow. I was wondering about DILLO as this seems the smallest around. The download from their site is Dillo - 3.0.2.tar.bz2 which is now on the hard disk. How do I go about getting it operational in Tiny Core.

Dillo is available in the repo.  Install using Apps.
I think you will find having only 64M will be a problem.

works here with 64, but don't open many tabs or big images :P

Do you need graphics? If not, look at elinks or lynx, both of which are in the repo.

Without disagreeing on any of the above mentioned, with 64MB I'd suggest trying links in framebuffer graphics mode, thereby saving substantial memory which would be spent just to run X.

yeah, Xorg would be too heavy.

Looking at the specs of this model, it takes max. memory 320MB.
Any mem you could add to the 64MB would make a substantial difference for web browsing.

P.S: Seems to have an interesting pointer device... :)
