In this order :
If I
$ alsamixer
I read soundcard and even chip #
If I do
$ sudo alsaconf
I can't locate my soundcard
If I
$ alsamixer
I read no soundcard 

No wonder he gets the big bucks ! :)

Sure he'd let it happen. But all you'd see is a blue screen :(
