Title: flashplayer11 to new, need older version
Post by: jackrabbit on July 18, 2012, 08:44:09 AM
tc 4.5.6 on thinkpad a21m, 800mhz, 512 ram. Can't view vids, youtube. Need older version of flash. How can I download getflash10? Is it still available? This tc is super fast on this thinkpad, got flash in addons in both ff and sm. Think the flash is just to much for the 800mhz cpu. We need to come up with something to beat this adobe so we can continue to enjoy our dinosaur computers. Please, everything works perfect except flash.

flashplayer version 9r31 extracted from fp 9 archive as available by adobe (unfortunately in one huge zip file) in combination with opera 9.20 static is what I have found so far to be the "lightest" approach which works for youtube ;)

Thanks for the post tinypoodle. Had same problem using puppy linux on this a21 thinkpad, just installed an older version of flash and everything fine. Could use puppy but I really like this Tiny Core. New to this tc system, I think it's possible to make an extension out of a tar gz. but over my head right now. Anyone interested? Need earlier flash 10.

You can't distribute such an extension. You can of course make one for yourself.

I  run an earlier version of TC on a Thinkpad T20 with similar specs to your computer.  I have found Minefield  (an unbranded version of firefox from repo) with flash 9 rc246 to work the best with our vintage of hardware.

Thanks gwalther, I looked at minefield but I don't think it comes with flash preinstalled. Thats the problem, I can't find, or don't know how to get, download older version of flash to work. Thought of d/l older tc but believe the apps will still be updated, having the getflash11. Can't believe how difficult it is to get this. This is how I learn though, trial and error. Can be aggravating, not pressed to get this, have other pcs working. May try minefield later on, looks interesting, thanks again.

Would that include a comparison with opera 9.64 extension from repo or not?

Got flashplayer10, well copied libflashplayer.so which I stole from puppy linux install and it overwrote the 11 libflashplayer in mozilla folder. All working well. Many thanks to all responders to my problem, much appreciated.
