Hi all couls someone point me to guide or just type here how i should install Radeon 9600 driver
and get it working on tiny core linux, ive installed xfce4 and got it working
now i just need a working Radeon driver, and yes iknow it should work ok out-of-the-box
but i would love to have catalyst radeon driver working or an alterarnative driver so i can
get opengl working as it should
so if anyone could just specify eactly what packages i need for example
- firmware-radeon?
- catalyst?
- etc
Thank you all so much in advance
Sincerally

btw how can i alter xorg.conf.vesa so it loads ati driver instead of vesa?
-
Fglrx / catalyst has not supported your card since 2006.
-
Kind of explains alot ;) hmm maybe possible to get hold of an old version of fglrx
-
Fglrx from 2006 will not work on any current kernel nor X. If you must use it, you'll need to use a distro from 2006.
To use the open 3d on TC, you'd install xf86-video-ati and Xorg-7.6-3d (alternatively, Xorg-7.5).
-
Thank you all for quick responses :)
I will try that, seems like the best solution (the only solution) ;)
anyway, iknow i tried that a cuople of days ago but it never updated xorg.conf.vesa to use that driver, yea im a noob
so im most likely doing it all wrong :P
But will give it a go when i get back home this evening, and must say i love TC so far, just one hickup i noticed when testing lxde with openbox, the openconfig settings never worked, but thats for another thread .
Cheers

Hi ztealmax
Go to the search page and enter xorg.conf.vesa to get yourself started.

here is an older tread from me http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,12965.msg71748.html#msg71748
All files (for my card) are there.
Adapt all names (Xorg7-6 instead of Xorg7-5..) to your need.
It could be a good start point.
-
or have a look at
http://ozlabs.org/~jk/docs/mergefb/xorg.conf
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/ATI_Radeon_9600_AGP
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver
...
for your conf file? (adapt it)
Few hints here http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/wer-hat-ati-radeon-9600-und-betreibt-sie-mit-/#post-2235969
says:
- use the driver "xserver-xorg-video-radeon"
- forget fglrx and radeonhd for that card
- use the Bootoption "radeon.modeset=1" (make it quicker; put that option in the extlinux.conf)
Mr. Google gives approx 75000 finding for "ati radeon 9600 xorg.conf".
So, your card seems to be an interesting piece.
