hi friends,
when i use mc 4.8.3 for browsing in a tar-file f.e. test.tgz i get this error message:
Error
Cannot open tar archive test.tgz/ugz://
after this error message disappears everything works fine...
so i can access test.tgz, copy, read and browse all packaged files.
by the way, the same behavior shows the scm-package in the repository.

You are right. I just found another bug when ftp is messing up directory. Maybe we have to go back to previous release.

Today (June 30) the pending updates were applied to a machine based on the Debian Testing repo. It included an update to mc. After the upgrade, the contents of a tgz can be browsed without an error message.
