Title: Disabling 'vi' support
Post by: Holmes.Sherlock on May 21, 2012, 05:51:33 AM
Core distro has native support for vi editor which I do not need. Is there any way to remove support for vi command & repackage/remaster the ditro myself, thereby making it thinner?

It is a part of busybox, not the separate package vi. To remove it you'd need to rebuild busybox.

I estimate you would only gain ~25kb by doing so.

Actually, I want to add native support for nano editor. Not only that, I'd like to add support for few more command & add native support for a few also, thus customizing it according to my need.

Hi Holmes.Sherlock

Perhaps e3 in the repo may be worth a look.

Including dependencies, the respective download sizes are:
nano.tcz 0.24MB
e3.tcz 0.02MB

IIRC Nano was a clone of Pico.  e3 emulates the key bindings of WordStar, Emacs, Pico, Nedit, or vi.  Additionally, Nedit emulation is very close to the key bindings used by many GUI editors in different distros and OSs.

Is e3 a full-fledged text editor or an add-on to text editors?
