Title: TCZ vs SCM - why choose one over the other?
Post by: Fallingwater on May 16, 2012, 02:42:08 PM
I've just installed the newest Tiny Core and I'm currently trying to figure out how to install stuff.
I've Googled about SCMs and I know they're self-contained, but beyond that I can't quite figure out why I should prefer them over TCZs, or why I shouldn't.

For instance: Firefox 12 is available both in Apps and ScmApps. Which to install, and why?

Thanks.

Search the forum here.  It has been discussed several times.

RTFMing someone off is not a good way to expand a user base ;)
- the info on SCM vs TCZ is scattered accross different forum topics at best, and I think that somebody should write a FAQ topic on SCM vs TCZ, because it seems to cause confusion to new users. For example, is being self-contained a worse alternative hard disk space -wise over a longer period of time (since the scm must contain all the dependencies in itself, thus causing several same required libraries to exist in different SCM packages).

Please note, SCM is dropped in TC 5.x
