i decided to reformate my usb 16GB pendrive in order to put all files (boot files and personal files) on one partition only (/sda1). I syslinux the partition in order to boot, and now i have a boot time up to 3 min. With the same pendrive, but with a boot partition of 16MB and the rest of the space for my files, it tooks less than 10 sec in order to load the bzImage and the kernel. My question: Do i have to keep two partitions in order to preserve quick boot time, or is it something wrong with my pendrive?

I have a 16GB usb stick formatted in one single partition that boots in a few seconds, so I don't think it's the partition size that is the problem.
Is the additional boot time spent loading extensions that were not being loaded at boot before?

actually... it was a problem with syslinux on the machine where i syslinux the pendrive. Everything is now all right, thanks for your quick support
