On boot, I like Scheme/fltk (and when pressed... Qt) extensions for spwaning files in xfe (Fox toolkit) file manager. Currently, I use smplayer for spawning movies. Seems flxine (@http://www.fltk.org/wiki.php?V199+TC+Q) appears to be a more efficient alternative to smplayer which requires a mplayer GTK+ dependancy.

you can use mplayer without any GUI just fine.

If you are talking about speed, Mplayer is a bit more efficient than Xine. If you need a GUI I recommend you gnome-mplayer, if not, hiro's suggestion is good.
If you are talking about 'dependencies bloat' you can try xine-ui.
flxine is really old (it is not updated since 2003) and it may need some tweaks, but If you want it I can try.

Mplayer_nodeps.tcz for an all round great player no gui required

@AmatCoder... excellent! I like the default core gui (flwm) so I though what if my compliation were based on a suite (w/Siag... "Scheme"), a filemanager {w/xfe... "Fox toolkit"), with as many fltk (or any?) frontends for cli's and alternatives to Qt/Gtk as possible. I'm shooting for very lightweight and user friendly.

Although I was able to compile flxine, finally I will not send to repository. The reasons are:
- To compile flxine needed some patches (and workaround configure script). So unexpected errors can be raised (including segfault ones).
- Flxine expects old xine versions. As tinycore repository has last xine version, some options does not work. Others like fullscreen works incorrectly on moderns WM. (works fine on flwm, however...)
- You can not to change options via GUI. So this is not very useful. You can see:

I send a PM to _blue4meridian with flxine.tcz attached, if somebody want it I can send to him also.
If someone test and finds it useful (I don't think so :P) could be uploaded to repository.
Regards.

Too bad, the interface seemed nice, the plastic type of fltk
