Title: extension for simple scan

i am not happy with xsane.tcz, it produces far worse image than with freekapture under windows.
i used to use simple scan under ubuntu to get decent images, when i tried to compile its source under tc, i came across error saying that vala compiler above 0.13.0 is needed and tc has vala.tcz of 0.9.0.
does this mean i have to compile latest vala?  what if vala depends on a other tcz whose version is not new enough? and so on so forth...?
