I bought this printer because it should be perfectly compatible with linux but I can not configure.
The package hplip description say:
howto:
open http://localhost:631 (http://localhost:631) in a browser
click on "add printer" button and follow instructions
choose a driver of the form "HP Officejet k80, hpcups 3.10.6 (color)"
corresponding to a uri of the form..
"hp:/usb/OfficeJet_K80?serial=ES0911401VOH"
..this should already be shown
click on "print testpage" button to test
But it is unclear.
My road:
1)install hplip
2) launch cups (sudo /usr/local/etc/init.d/cups start)
3)http://localhost:631
4)Click on "Adding Printers and Classes"
5)Click on "add printer" request a user and password, I had to use "sudo passwd" to create the root password and access
6) this is list showed list
Local Printers: SCSI Printer

Discovered Network Printers:

LPD/LPR Host or Printer
i click on third voice "HP Officejet 4500 G510g-m USB CN1A9G31YZ05CQ HPLIP (HP Officejet 4500 G510g-m)" and continue, and again continue on next page
7) i select firt autofinded voice "HP Officejet 4500 g510g-m, hpcups 3.11.5 (en)" and press "add printer"
8)Set default option of print
9)Select "Print text page", an item appears in the list immediately after select this item, but no printing is done.
Help me?

Do you have ghostscript and ghostscript_common loaded?
What does the cups error log say (/var/log/cups/error_log)?
-
For ghostscript, yep, is a dependency of hplip.
For Errors:
Paste of html page: http://pastehtml.com/view/bihojeef7.html (http://pastehtml.com/view/bihojeef7.html)
error_log: http://pastebin.com/w2P4h7E8 (http://pastebin.com/w2P4h7E8)
and for completeness access_log http://pastebin.com/Z1krkbKY (http://pastebin.com/Z1krkbKY)
Thanks Juan
-
I didn't see this error before:
"no profiles specified in PPD"
Can you confirm ghostscript AND ghostscript_common are installed?
Maybe you could change "LogLevel warn" to "LogLevel debug" in /usr/local/etc/cups/cupsd.conf, restart cups, try again and post the contents of error_log.
-
I'm sorry juan, seeing that ghostscript was a dependency of hplip I had not realized that ghostscript it was not.
Now work! :) very thank juan, I'll try scanning in the future, for now I just want to print :P
-
I'll try scanning in the future
For future reference, it works fine for me with hplip_sane-2.7 and xsane - sane-backends should not be needed with hplip
-
Xsane work fine ;D
-
Uhm, I sang victory too soon, I have a strange problem.
I can only print in black and white, even though I tell to print in color, instead if using the printer as a copier does not have this problem
-
It's maybe fixable using the cups browser interface - administration -> set default options
Otherwise perhaps a bug?
-
i don't have "set default options" in amministration bun in page of printer (like previous html paste), in drop-down menu.
But the setting the setting is configured to work in color.
I hope this is not a bug, but for now I just need the black.
You think it is problem of cups, ghostscript or hplip?
-
You think it is problem of cups, ghostscript or hplip?
If you've confirmed that the printer is indeed set to print in colour in the cups browser interface, then I would recommend checking the hplip bug listing first.
-
I open a bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/908740 but I do not think that I will receive response (looking at the rate of response).
In the meantime I tried to compile newest hplip and I did with the dependencies in the repository.
I use this configure command: ./configure --prefix=/usr/local --with-
cupsbackenddir=/usr/local/lib/cups/backend --with-icondir=/usr/local/share/appli
cations --with-cupsfilterdir=/usr/local/lib/cups/filter --disable-network-buildAfter make install and run hp-setup -i (qt gui not work) and copy the libhpmud libraries in /usr/lib/ (strangely otherwise not found) the software can configure the printer but does not print.
hp-testpage -i

Done.
you use to compile scripts? I would like to try some new versinoe of hplip
-
I also see a problem in that I can only print in greyscale from the printer server - since I have not changed printer nor cups/hplip recently, this would tend to indicate a problem with ghostscript which was updated recently.
Looking at these two bugs, there could well be an issue with ghostscript

Edit: client machines using local windows drivers can print in colour...

juan, is possible to exhume the old gs 9.0 from the repository in any way? repositories are stored the old packages?
P.s. i download previous version with 3.0 repo from http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/3.x/tcz/ (http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/3.x/tcz/)
I will try and I'll let you know
-
We could do that, but other users had problems printing pdf files using ghostcript-9.00, so it's a kind of a toss-up between printing in greyscale or not printing at all.
I'll try to do some more testing first..
-
ehy juan, work well with 9.0 : http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/6024/outbu.png (http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/6024/outbu.png) (scan of printed test page).
I have not tested with a pdf (in reference to what you said), when I do I inform you.
Could I ask you to re-enter these packets, perhaps with a name like "ghostscript_old" "ghostscript_common_old" and in description something like "for compatibility with printers that print only in black and white or color".
There might also write "possible errors with printing PDF".
Thanks ;)
I retract everything I said, ghostscript 9.0 only print the test page, everything else is covered with black squares.
I will try to install an intermediate version, I hope to fill.
-
ok, I tried to compile the 9.02, I did it with no problem (also uses autoconf).
However I was not able to print.
Maybe I just have to hope to do a new driver, maybe joining on the bug reports.
Juanito, you have any suggest? some argouments I may have forgotten need to work ghostscript compiling?
-
I'm working on it- hopefully I'll have some time tonight to try a few things out.
-
Ok, juan very thanks, for now I hold well with the black and white but I cross my fingers :D
-
I had a look at dropping back to ghostscript-9.02, but I was concerned this would re-introduce the problem with printing some recent versions of pdf.
I'm not a fan of using git versions of apps, but this seems to cure the problem of only printing in greyscale, so the git version is posted for now.
