Title: [UPDATED] TinyCore 4.2 boot from CDROM - AppBrowser - BUG
Post by: lkraemer on December 21, 2011, 02:30:42 PM
On two separate Installs of TinyCore 4.1 from CDROM, and using AppBrowser, a .tcz file was selected for install.  It finished downloading & installing.  Searching for another .tcz will show a blank screen
in the Left Panel of AppBrowser.  Clicking Connect reports a Connection Error.  The /opt/tcemirror
no longer contains the ibiblio link, but contains the last.tcz which completed downloading.

The first time, I did another Fresh Install because I didn't know how to repair the problem.
tce-fetch.sh info.lst results show an invalid URL.

The second time, I just edited /opt/tcemirror so it contained "http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux"

Something is happening to change the file contents of tcemirror.

Thanks.

Without reproducible specifics I cannot attempt to address.

Robert,
I do understand what you are saying......Do you have some specific information that is needed, or a script I could run to collect
information, that could generate the information you are needing?

I don't know if it will happen again, or if I can create a scenerio that would allow you to duplicate the problem.

Hi lkraemer
If you cannot provide specific steps to reproduce it, or at least narrow it down to a specific .tcz
causing it, it would be extremely difficult to investigate the problem.

Robert & Rich,
If you try mirror.tcz and then select GO from AppBrowser I think you can duplicate the problem.  It seems to
happen at Random, because once gdb.tcz killed our system.  Sometimes, it's a different ?.tcz.

There are similar postings at:   REF:

Thanks.

Roberts & Rich,
Here is a Scenerio that will allow you to duplicate the problem many folks are seeing.

1.  Boot CorePlus "I used the current Version 4.2.1"
2.  OPEN Appbrowser
3.  Click CONNECT
4.  Click MIRROR
5.  Click "OK" on Error Message
6.  Type in a SEARCH Parameter like "GDB"
7.  At this point any Item clicked on in the Left Pane will get copied and written into the
     /opt/tcemirror
8.  From this point, Appbrowser will not function, resulting in connection errors.

If the SEARCH feature was disabled after the displayed Mirror Error Message, it would force
folks to select CONNECT again.  At that point SEARCH should be re-enabled.  Or you could DISABLE the MIRRORS BUTTON if mirrors.tcz is not installed.

Maybe this will assist you in re-creating the problem we see as we try to understand and use
CorePlus.

I understand your answer will be to "NOT USE the MIRRORS BUTTON" that way, but many of us have seen this problem resulting from non-standard usage, causing many un-necessary installs
and downloads of several tcz files to rebuild our systems.  Which causes your Bandwidth usage
to go WILD!

Thanks.

Larry
