Flash 11 is out and we need a getFlash11.
-
I'll look into porting it.
-
Done.
-
Wow, that was fast (one hour!).
Thanks!
-
This extension also works for 3.x.
-
Ok, copied it to 3.x repo.
-
Any conflict with getflash10? Should that be removed before downloading getflash11?
-
the getflash extensions themselves should not conflict, but you don't want to have the resulting flash10.tcz and flash11.tcz installed at the same time, as they do conflict. It simply means that whichever one is loaded first, then that is the version of flash you will be running.
-
In the past, folks needed a reason for a particular version of flash, like I think flash 7 that did not depend on gtk2. So the getFlash extension will be available for the different versions. Otherwise, we could simply name it "getflash.tcz" and just download the latest. But experience has shown that for various reasons it is always better to leave in a choice of version.

Hello
Great. The latest Flash can't be a bad thing for TCL....right.
A lot of web browsers get fussy about Flash...or should i say, web sites get fussy. Web sites often need to
have the very latest flash and browser. So, to have the latest browser and latest Flash is very good for Tcl. At least
you know everything is up to date. I use Opera 11 and it's pretty much doing fine.
thanks
V.

I have a minor problem with Flash 11 on Opera 11. Every time I'm looking on video it starts fine but after a few minutes the image gets choppy (not sound, it's ok). This doesn't happen with Firefox.
-
Hi uggla
It sounds like it's dropping frames in order to keep up with the video. Run top and then play a
video. Check if anything else is using excessive CPU cycles or RAM. Watch the %MEM and %CPU
columns.
-
Thanks, I'll do some testing.
-
Hi, there is a bug in actual extension. The quick and dirty solution is:
- MIRROR="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/11.1.102.55/"
Adobe has changed the link maybe.
-
I see an error downloading too.
Thanks, I will correct it.
-
Fixed, though I lament that now we have to adjust the extension to try to keep up with minor releases. Maybe there is still a way to fetch the current without specifying version.
-
Hi Jason W
I just want to point out that it was not that long ago that a member could not get Flash10 to work
with Opera10. Turned out that one of those minor updates broke Flash for Opera:

I think I have an idea that would give an 'exports only' option without complicating things
-
I've used an older flash10 for a long time on all my pcs which saves FlashXXX files in /tmp and never updated because newer versions used to close the files, making them disappear in folder listings.
Is there a user friendly way to access these files with latest flash? I'm not sure if I should update...
-
Perhaps via /proc/pid/fd?
-
I have added a way to select version with getFlash11.
Here are the options, they are documented in the --help fuction:
/usr/local/bin/getflash11.sh # Will download the latest current version
/usr/local/bin/getflash11.sh --current # Will also get the most current
/usr/local/bin/getflash11.sh 11.1.102.55 # Will fetch version 11.1.102.55
/usr/local/bin/getflash11.sh --available # Will list available versions. Of course, if a new version arrives before the script is updated, entering that new version manually should work. I hope adobe's directory structure is what is predicted upon updates, but if not, adjustments can be made.
-
does the
flash11.tcz.md5.txt
need an update in the repository, too?
-
flash11.tcz is not in the repo, it is created by running the getflash extension. The way you update it is by rerunning getflash.
-
hi jason w,
ok, i understand, but the AppsAudit utility reports an error, after checking new updates:
"Error on fetch of flash11.tcz.md5.txt"
i guess after deleting the flash11.tcz.md5.txt-file in my tce-dir the error message won't appear again.
but on the other side i think it will be created at next download or update of flash11!?
should there be a tiny change in the download and update routine?
-
AppsAudit is just telling you athat flash11.tcz in not in the repo. That is correct, and can be ignored.
-
Hello
i am going to sound as dumb as a post here
but is this thread concluding that for people wanting to run Opera 11 on tce 4.0.2
with Flash 11 .....then they need to re-download those specific extensions and get it all going right...
(meanwhile clearing away any earlier traces of Flash 10....or getflash10 etc)
thanks
V.
-
It is not a dumb question.
However, there can only be one version of flash installed by getFlash1x.tcz at a time, since the files are the same. Flash10 cannot be installed at the same time as flash11.
However, ~/.mozilla/plugins takes precedence over /usr/local/$FIREFOX/plugins and that is over /usr/local/lib/mozilla/plugins. /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins fits in there somewhere, hardcoded. So there are plenty of places to put another flash temporarily or permanently and perhaps back it up or make an extension. But that does get outside the scope of the getFlash extension.
-
Oops, I see you said opera. I don't use it much, but you can more easily choose plugin paths with it I believe.
-
Where is the Flash settings stored?
-
There are no settings.
There are only plugin links for the browsers.
-
But how do I make these settings persistent?
http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html (http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html)
-
Hi uggla
I think you may have to track the location down yourself, however, here is something that may help.
Open a terminal and type
touch Now
Then change some flash settings.
At the terminal enter
sudo find / -newer Now
That should list any files that were modified since you executed the touch command and hopefully
provide enough clues of which files/directories to add to your backup.
-
Thanks! I tried it and found:
/home/tc/.macromedia/Flash_Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys
/home/tc/.macromedia/Flash_Player/macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/sys/settings.sol
But the file settings.sol is only 373 bytes and appears empty. My home directory is already persistent but the flash settings is still not remembered.
Does this work for anyone else?
-
Hi uggla
Check your /opt/.xfiletool.lst file. You will probably find it contains the line
.macromedia/Flash_Player
Anything listed in this file overrides what's in /opt/.filetool.lst.
-
My home is set in the bootcode not in .filetool.lst. But I tried to remove the line in .xfiletool.lst anyway and NOW IT WORKS. I didn't know that stuff in .xfiletool.lst is only written to memory no matter what. I've now erased everything in .xfiletool.lst since I have /opt and /tce too in the bootcode.
Thanks!
-
Hi uggla
I would strongly suggest that you restore .xfiletool.lst with just the one line removed. The purpose
of that file is to filter out directories (or files) that may make your backup unnecessarily large, such
as browser caches for example.
-
But my .filetool.lst is empty as well and my mydata.tgz is less than 1kb.
