Title: [SOLVED] Puzzling wifi problem suddenly
Post by: jur on September 23, 2011, 12:25:10 AM
I am having a very puzzling problem on my eeepc:

wifi was working just fine, when suddenly (maybe after plugging in a SD card in the built-in slot) boom, no more connection. Typing iwconfig in a terminal, reveals no wireless interfaces. What the heck happened to wlan0???

The ath9k module is not loaded, rebooting does not help, neither does modprobe. lspci in a terminal shows the ethernetcard, but no other network cards. It's as if the thing suddenly evaporated.

What can I do to trouble-shoot?

Hi jur
Try checking the BIOS, maybe it got disabled. Of course there is also the possibility the wireless
interface died.

Hey thanks Rich, I checked the BIOS and it was indeed disabled! No idea how that can happen in the middle of anywhere. I haven't visited the BIOS in years. It's working after enabling it.

At one stage I tried booting off a lubuntu stick which I intend using for setting up my media PC (had enough of Win7); the boot failed. Is it possible that the BIOS setting was disabled then?

Hi jur
Glad to help. I don't know anything about the  eeepc, but maybe it doesn't like hot-plugging the
SD card?
