Title: Upgrade from 3.4.1 to 3.8 Openbox and obconf Errors

After Update TCZ's Files

Heavy Bug: No Openbox Menus
- Openbox can't write to /usr/local/tce.installed..
- no right changes
- Boot Errors at TCZ loadings

copy back old openbox+obconf from April my Desktops works..
how to show version number??

now i use 3.8 with older openbox.tcz and obconf.tcz

Hello bmarkus,

i used 3.4.1 with openbox.tcz+obconf.tcz.
made a normal update on console tce-update..
after reboot, i take boot option "showapps"
the apps were not able to "touch /usr/local/tce.installed/obconf"
or "touch /usr/local/tce.installed/openbox". I dont know the basics inside
TCZ-Files. Other deps like "curl" have show the same Errors
touch /usr/local/tce.installed/curl"

Error Message "Access denied"! but i changed nothing at the rights..

after restore of older obconf and openbox my Menus appear back..
(I use tinycore+openbox+chrome-browser) nothing more

obconf.tcz is not yet updated in the repository and not compatible with latest openbox shared libs. It is not a bug. It is the actual status of transition.

Which applications and why? There is nothing to do with, it's internal system stuff.

Sounds like an extension has root ownership of tce.installed directory.  Posting your onboot.lst would help find it.

Usually when major version is bumped good to skip xxx.0 and wait for xxx.2 at least and also for few of the big distros to start using it. 3.5 is too fresh at the moment, Iw as not careful enough. In fact, I tested it with LXDE and works fine. I did not consider it's stand-alone use. Also, obconf can't be compiled, seems to be incompatible with 3.5 So lets wait a bit.

thanks to all for help..

remark sometimes its better to have a small desktop for older thinclients+netbooks (old-Laptops)

older Laptops with TC are perfect for business traveling cause if stolen no data on disk lost.
