Title: actual firefox and thunderbird - problems with fonts (SOLVED)
Post by: netnomad on July 21, 2011, 05:25:28 PM
the actual firefox 5.01 and thunderbird 5.0 have problems to display the fonts in the menu- and statusbars properly.
sometimes messages are overwritten, letters are mixed together or the display isn't refreshed properly.
in the setting menus the refresh function doesn't work all the time, so different menue-displays are overlayed and,
as a result, unreadable.

by the way, midori has some problems to display the cache, f.e. when i follow my links backward the cache is sometimes displayed with artifacts or only parts of the display are refreshed.
the firefox and thunderbird seem also to have problems to repaint certain areas
that old stuff is not cleared to give place for new messages...

by the way the actual seamonkey 2.2 has the same bug and odd behaviour in tinycore.
though i didn't config seamonkey, it should be easy to reproduce this.

Is it a regression from previous ff?

hi curaga,

i'm not sure whether i understand regression... you mean that it's a bug!?

yes, i think it's a bug in the tc config environment:
i checked it and experienced that these programs don't show these misfunctions
on other platforms like debian, mac or win.

i tried also different fonts under xvesa, but i didn't succeed to change the fonts of the statusbars or menues.
do you know how to change them?
i would like to change them, especially the size, there are often too small,
especially vlc, minitube and a few others have so tiny, nearly unreadable fonts...

thank you for your advice.

If I am understanding correctly, I have been seeing this same thing with other gtk2 apps, and I believe it is a gtk2 thing.

but i guess that there was no change in the tinycore-gtk2-package recently
and these programs had no problems in the last versions on base of this gtk2-package!?

is there someone out there, who experienced something else???

I also find these symptoms with ff5.  When I start typing an address in the url bar the list appears & is readable. When I type the second & subsequent letters the list updates, but the contents overwrite the previous contents of the list, making the whole thing unreadable.

Don't know if it's related, but in thunderbird 5 when customising the toolbars a similar problem occurs. When the list of icons available is scrolled or paged the icons are displayed in the new positions in the dialog, but the previous contents are still there, again making things somewhat confusing.

the gtk2-package was updated to 2.24.6 today,
but there is still no improvement of the mozilla-based programs
like firefox, seamonkey, minefield6, icecat or thunderbird.
the font-problem is still the same.
