hey everyone, just picked up an old laptop and found tinycore. when i type tci to install to the hard drive, i get the following error:
login[88]: root login on 'tty1'
cat: can't open '/etc/sysconfig/tcuser': No such file or directory
(none) login:

Have you checked the downloaded files with their md5sums? Is the laptop ram above the minimum requirement?
-
The laptop is a Toshiba Tecra 8100. It's got a P3 450Mhz processor, 64MB RAM, 6GB HDD... figured it'd be good enough for a lightweight linux distro, I've been expecting it as a RAM issue.
-
64mb is enough. md5?
Also, boot with "pause" and post if you see any error messages.
-
the md5 i got is as follows:
MD5 (multicore-current.iso) = 08cb05dcb2928ccf8bd2deb399bd5a76
also, after selecting a boot option before the gui loads, i get this message at the top of the screen:
pci 0000:01:00.0: no compatible bridge window for [mem 0x000c0000-0x0000cffff pref]
then proceeds to the desktop and works normal.
using tci pause I get login[79] instead.

Ah, you should've specified you were using multicore, I missed that part. The additional data in there raises the minimum memory required.
I'm afraid in such a situation you'd need to do a manual install.

yeah, my bad on the MultiCore, thought it was obvious because i don't get any options to install with the tinycore CD.
