Title: minitube - dep-file needs gst-plugins-bad.tcz and phonon-backend-vlc.tcz
Post by: netnomad on June 25, 2011, 06:40:50 PM
hi friends,

i had some problems to use minitube proberly.
minitube is a great program for people that don't like the ads and the commercial interface of youtube.
minitube offers you a great experience of the content of youtube without browsing on that side...

i had some problems to use the embedded mediaplayer...
at first i needed sound, that's clear f.e. OSS.tcz.

but finally i found my way in installing additionally gst-plugins-bad.tcz and phonon-backend-vlc.tcz.
i think there are some dependencies that are needed.
would you please check the dep.file or is there something i should obey?

thank you for your help.

hmm gst-plugins-bad maybe but what's the problem with gstreamer backend ?

also plugins are optional and it is stated to use gst plugins in extension info

seems that dependencies are not optional, they are needed for the app to launch.

I installed minitube and ran in the terminal to find why it would not start and find any missing dependencies.

1st missing dep.  libphonon.so.4   ok installed phonon  check  note: note listed as a dep!
2nd missing dep. libqtxml.so.4    ......  can not find ....  ok found it in qt - 4 which is an installed dep but again not loaded..

3rd missing dep.  phonon-backend-streamer  ok installed check
4th missing dep.

error  phonon backend streamer could not be loaded.
etc etc etc...

Code: [Select]
tc@box:~$ minitube
sh: minitube: not found
tc@box:~$ tce-load -i minitube
libsoup-gnome.tcz not found!
tc@box:~$ tce-load -i libsoup-gnome
libsoup-gnome.tcz not found!
tc@box:~$ tce-load -i minitube
dbus-glib.tcz: OK
ORBit2.tcz not found!
tc@box:~$ tce-load -i minitube
taglib.tcz: OK
gst-plugins-good.tcz: OK
minitube.tcz: OK
tc@box:~$ minitube
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin could not be loaded

the errors and missing components appear endless...

error  phonon backend plugin could not be loaded
ok installed phonon backend-vlc

now we apear to have a semi-functions app :|

ok now where is the sound???

maybe the sound issue was user error..!

Having spent the last few hours download dep after dep.  we're watching TV now,  and it was worth wait :)   not sure if it is worth the bloat.  but the youtube requirement has now been met.

 ;D

hi coreplayer2,

just have a look at my first posting:

1. install sound, f.e. OSS
2. additionally gst-plugins-bad.tcz and phonon-backend-vlc.tcz
3. install minitube.tcz with all it's dependencies
then it just works fine for me...

but i succeeded only on the vlc framework, xine isn't working for me.

it's important that you have sound at the beginning, it's not possible to install the sound afterwards.
otherwise you have to reboot and try it again.
i use to install xmms and play some radio to check the sound before...

Thanks netnomad

Yes I already had sound but had accidentally removed a critical alsa component with the help of AppsAudit  sound is back up though.

never could figure out why OSS doesn't work for me but I have sound thanks

i prefer alsa on other distributions f.e. debian, too.
but in tinycore my experience with OSS is much better...
perhaps my minitube-config prefers the OSS-environment with all it's dependencies!?

i use the same configuration successfully on very different hardware, it just works: so give OSS a second chance.
sometimes programs use alsa as the standard sound system in their configuration, i guess i had to config xmms for OSS.

you could check your settings with a gui-tool like ossxmixer,  your mixer could be muted...

I try to use it on other systems and it totally fails to play any movie, as for sound well I don't believe there is sound either.. :(
