Title: JACKD and firewire

I'm trying to run jackd and firewire:
$ jackd -d firewire -r 44100
I get the following:
Unknown driver "firewire".
I know it should support it as I've managed to get this done on top of Fedora 15.
Problem is Fedora is too heavy and this platform looks like to ideal one.

Anyone?

Call up AppBrowser and enter firewire in the search box, maybe one of those extensions will help.

Now I've also added the DEV librarys - nothing helps...

Any other idea?

(*) maybe I need to change a kernel to RT / firewire -> can you tell me how to do this?

DEV's are only needed when compling.
I think the RT version is for the realtime kernel, you should not need that.

It's probably objecting to the name firewire. Check those extensions using AppBrowser. The tab
labeled files tells you the names of the included files. It may be something like firewire-core or
firewire-net depending on what you are trying to do.

I have not used either package so I can't tell you much more.

Post by: gutmensch on June 24, 2011, 05:42:28 PM: it's possible that jack.tcz was built without firewire support (compared to the fedora one). firewire-2.6.33.3-tinycore.tcz should give you firewire support in standard tinycore... however it is no dep of jack, so I'm not sure that jack supports it.

I planned to provide and used to provide on tc 2.x a jack-ffado extension, but although people tell me it should work I never actually got the new firewire stack working. I tried it at least three times, but it was never stable enough for me to use. If there is interest I could provide jack-ffado together with a firewire-legeacy extension, but it's probably more straightforward to use an ubuntustudio rt legacy-firewire kernel (I haven't watched what they currently offer, but iirc that's what some friends of me use).

I'm trying to connect it to a specific DAC. And I know the requirement is to use the LATEST FFADO driver, which includes fixes for this specific HW.
If you can add it here to the Tiny Core that will be great.

Post by: hiro on June 30, 2011, 06:29:11 AM: Ubuntustudio definitely should work as long as your sound chip is supported by ffado. Perhaps you want to ask ubuntustudio or ffado guys about your problem.

Post by: curaga on July 10, 2011, 09:39:17 AM: Ah, nice, no more forced alsa via jack. Having it broke vlc among other things for OSS users, but since it was an unknown package I couldn't test, didn't touch it.
