Title: [feature req.] frugal install via .deb
Post by: suare on June 16, 2011, 08:48:57 AM
Kudos for awesome work guys!

It would be great if TC could be packaged as .deb which will perform frugal install and automatically add entry to grub menu.
Starter packs could be packaged as tc-data.deb for example.

This would dramatically increase your userbase and help with testing.

Just to clarify: by "frugal" I mean "Tiny Core can run in a couple of directories in your existing Linux installation" feature which is only briefly mentioned in http://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/install.html

It would be great if I can just download tinycore-3.9.deb and install it into my Debian system with "dpkg -i tinycore-3.9.deb" - so all the necessary directories in /boot are created, files copied, boot entries added and grub updated.

It's 4.1 already and no signs of progress or interest. Sad indeed.

Hi suare

boot entries added and grub updated.
This is something best left to the end user based on whether they are using GRUB, GRUB2, or yet
one of the many other boot loaders available. Plus, creating and maintaining packages for Tinycore
can be a full time activity in itself without creating additional packages for the other Linux's out there.
