Ext4 and TC
« on: March 24, 2009, 03:08:42 AM »
A simple question. Does TinyCore support ext4? Can it coexist with another distro on a ext4 partition?

Best regards,
Ashren

TC currently uses 2.6.26 which did not have (stable?) ext4.  It's probably possible to add it though.

However, I believe ext4 is backwards compatible with ext2/3, so it should be fine.

TC can coexist with another distro on the same partition.

So writing to ext4 from TC should be alright? I guess that's what you are saying and I know that ext4 is backwards compatible with ext2/3.

I'll try it in the near future when I feel adventurous and report back here.

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry, ext4 is only mountable as ext3/2 when extents are not used. I believe they are by default on since the 2.6.29 kernel.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
