AppLoader install options?
« on: April 07, 2011, 07:31:25 PM »
I have looked both in the FAQs (which didn't have the information) and the wiki (which had outdated info that didn't help enough) and I still don't really get the differences.
When downloading something with the app loader built in, you can download it as the following:

* OnBoot
* OnDemand
* Download + Load
* Download Only

I understand that "Download only" just downloads the installing file, but the other three is unclear to me.  Can you tell me the difference?

* OnBoot - sets up extension to load every boot
* OnDemand - sets up extension to be available to load from menu/icon
* Download + Load - self explanatory

not as much.  Isn't loading the same thing as installing?

In this context, I guess you could say that load is the equivalent to install.

Basically the extension is loop mounted, which makes the files in it available in much the same way as loading a cd.

IIRC the difference between "Download + Load" and "OnBoot" is that the extension (in the case of the former) is not added to the 'onboot.lst' file and even though it is available (i.e. installed) for the current session it will need to be re-installed (e.g. via tce-load -i EXT-NAME) the next time around (e.g. after a re-boot). For obvious reason a re-download won't be required.

If you need an extension ie app just once or infrequently, then using this option will download it and mount the extension, to be available for running just this once. Useful if you don't want it to clutter up the wbar. To start the app use a terminal.

Many people see what is. Some people see what can be, and make a difference.
