Ethernet Bug
« on: April 15, 2011, 03:30:46 PM »
???   :(  I am new to Tiny Core - installed it to a USB with a little help
and it boots really fast, but even though I am connected to the
internet with a ethernet card that is working, I could not get
online or find a browser.

When I clicked the control panel and network there were no numbers
in IP address etc. Is this a bug? Does it fill this in automatically
or do I have to call my internet provider for help?

There's no real browser built into base Tiny Core. The "appbrowser" (gearwheel thingy on the menu bar) lets you download extensions, including a number of browsers like Firefox.

Do you mean that when you clicked on the appbrowser you didn't get to the extensions repository (i.e. see the list of extensions)?

If the appbrowser doesn't seem to be working you could search this forum (search button at top) for ethernet-related posts. I know a few posters have had problems although I haven't.

On the control panel network tool, do you have "Use DHCP Broadcast" selected?  If not, try that and click the "Apply" button.  Then (if that gets you online), you should be able to open the appbrowser, click the "Connect" button and see a list of applications available for installation from the online repository.

Get firefox or one of the other web browsers for web surfing.  You'll have to add sound and Flash capability if you want to see stuff like youtube videos and the endless advertising on the web.
