Namoroka can't view TCL Downloads Page files
« on: January 21, 2011, 01:40:08 AM »
I'm not able to read the Info, List, or dep files on the TCL Downloads page through the Namoroka web browser. It forces me to download them (I can then read them in the file manager). Namoroka appears to think those extensions are for binary files. In the past I was able read them directly, although it's been a while since I browsed there. There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to update the Applications content in Edit/Preferences on Namoroka either.

It looks as though either the file extensions or something in Namoroka has changed.

edit: previously titled "Namoroka -- odd problem". Changed to be more descriptive.

I have noticed the same thing using Shiretoko with TinyCore and also using Firefox in windows.  I first noticed this about a week ago.  I found that if you change the http in the address bar to ftp...then the info file and dep file work as before....ie open new window... not try to download a binary file.

You're right, that works. Thanks.

It still seems quirky to me though!

I think it has something to do with the move or change they recently did with ibiblio, and not our browsers.

My assumption is that one of the changes to the main repository (at ibiblio.org) is a change of the HTTP server (now 'lighttpd/1.4.26'). With this probably came changes to the 'Content-Type' settings.

The current settings seems to be 'application/octet-stream' for *.dep, *.info and *.list files (and 'text/plain' for *.md5.txt files). My hunch is that the former setup was different (e.g. also 'text/plain' for *.dep, *.info and *.list files). Unfortunalely I have no way to confirm this hunch, and the other HTTP mirrors from 'mirrors.lst' (i.e. http://ftp.nluug.nl and http://ftp.vim.org) seemed to be currently "gone", possibly as a consequence of the changes over at ibiblio.org.
