command not found??
« on: November 13, 2010, 09:53:06 AM »
While trying to install, it says "command not found" even though I JUST downloaded said package. what could cause that??? I followed the installation instructions to the t once before and everything went great but I wanted to do it again and now I am getting all these "command not found"s. --even though I can use the terminal and browse to the directory where the command is and even see it when I 'ls', it just refuses to run. or sometimes it even happens to my core programs, "vi" for example. Is my ram bad? wtf? I can't get through an installation successfully anymore, what gives.

What package? Did you download and load it?

packages/programs it has happened with: cfdisk, grub, gparted, vi, and even ls one time!! it's crazy that's what I'm SAYING! I downloaded and loaded it RIGHT THEN, let appbrowser tell me that it's been "successfully installed" and then try to use it and it's "not found"! I don't know what's going on. And sometimes like I said it's with the core apps like vi. I'll use it once it'll work, and then try to use it again and it's not found. I know how to download and use apps, I got firefox and wicd and all that setup before with no problem. Now I can't even do an install because grub or cfdisk or vi or something will inevitably be "not found".  ??? ??? ??? ???

Are you familiar with how Tiny Core has changed since the introduction of On Demand.

You can have applications installed on the hard drive, but not loaded to the computer (until you want to use them).

One way to address this: Open Apps Audit. Click On Boot, then Maintenance. Click on each application (on the left) you want loaded when you start the computer. Restart the computer.
Many people see what is. Some people see what can be, and make a difference.

yeah I am running 3.2 so I am up to date with the OnBoot and OnDemand settings. They were already set to OnBoot but I guess a restart fixed it. Very Strange.

For core apps such as ls and vi, the most likely explanation is a typo. I sometimes get that myself, an invisible char before or after.

If it's tried several times and still not, then there would be corruption somewhere indeed.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
