install tiny core into vmware player

im using virtual IDE drives, not scsi (tiny core did not recognize the scsi drives)

even though fdisk -l returns a valid partition on /dev/hda1....cfdisk says it can't write a filesystem to it?

any ideas?

Sometimes after changing the partition table, a reboot is required before linux is fully aware of the changes - in fact it usually gives you a message telling you as much when you quit out of fdisk. (Granted, I haven't had this problem for a long time now...)

Re-reading with hdparm -z might also work if you don't want to reboot.

I don't see much, could you just try to do just:
cfdisk

instead of dev/hda?

Hi even if this thread is a little bit old I think it could be useful for some guy out there trying TinyCore within VMWare Player. All you have to do is to go in the Settings of your newly created Virtual Machine -> Hardware Customization -> Hard Disk and Add a new 'IDE' type disk the size of you want. Reboot the Virtual Machine and you will have access to the Disk via cfdisk and fdisk. It should be /dev/hda.
