extensions icons

many programs place their icons under /usr/local/share/icons/hicolor, maybe this should be supported by this distro

For some time now, I have been leaving a programs icons as they are, but have added an icon to /usr/local/share/pixmaps and added the full icon path to the .desktop file.

I was under the impression that gnome and other window managers (I only use flwm classic) would use the .desktop file to find the icons where they were placed by "make install"?
