How to get skype sound events going?

Anybody got any ideas on how to get the skype sounds working? They are there in a directory but skype does not use them so I don't get ring sounds and so on. Sound itself works fine. If I try to activate the sounds for events it puts an exclamation mark on the config panel but no further help. I had a look in the config file in ~/.skype but that didn't yield anything much.

Anybody with info on how to do this?

Is it perhaps to do with the TCL way of putting everything under /usr/local, so that the path does not point to the sound files dir?
